How To Hold Your Ski Poles - 3 Tips

Our partners, New Generation, have produced a series of how-to videos for first-time skiers. They have 20 years’ experience in helping people develop their technique, build confidence, and have fun on the slopes.

Although they seem like straight forward pieces of kit, it is important your ski poles are the correct length and are held properly. In this video, you will learn how to hold your poles and how to correctly measure them to the right length.

How To Hold Your Ski Poles - 3 Tips

  • First, check whether your ski pole is the right length - turn the pole upside-down, when you put the pole down, your arm should form a 90° angle.
  • Make sure the strap is long enough - hold the strap out and put your hand through it from the bottom up.
  • Make sure to hold the pole over the strap.

Now, you should know how to hold your ski pole and make sure it is the right size. If you would like any more information on first-time skiing, check out New Generation's Learn to ski page.
